WriteHero

LinkedIn MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT

A free WriteHero connector that checks, formats and previews LinkedIn posts inside your AI assistant. No signup, no API key, no LinkedIn login.

It does not log in to LinkedIn or post for you. It makes sure what your assistant writes fits LinkedIn before you paste it.

Server URL

https://writehero.io/api/mcp

Paste it into your assistant's connector settings. Steps for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor are below.

What the LinkedIn MCP tools do

Your assistant writes the post. These tools make sure it fits LinkedIn before you paste it.

check_linkedin_post
Counts characters against LinkedIn's 3,000 limit, estimates what appears before “see more” on desktop (the first three lines, up to about 210 characters), scores the hook, and flags Markdown, placeholders and phrases that read as AI-written.
format_linkedin_post
Turns the Markdown assistants write (**bold**, headings, lists, links) into text that pastes cleanly into LinkedIn, with Unicode bold and italic.
preview_linkedin_post
Returns a link to an approximate preview of the post in the LinkedIn feed, on mobile and desktop.
generate_linkedin_hooks
Opening-line templates filled with your topic, audience and result. Details only you know stay in [brackets] for you to fill in.
generate_linkedin_headlines
Profile headline options built from your role, audience and proof, each within the 220-character limit.
style_linkedin_text
Bold, italic, cursive, strikethrough or underlined Unicode text for a word or line.

Example: what check_linkedin_post returns

I am thrilled to share that we hit 1,000 users!

It's not about luck, it's about **consistency**.

Here is what we learned.
Verdict
Fix before posting · 123 of 3,000 characters
Fail
LinkedIn shows Markdown as raw symbols: **bold**. Run format_linkedin_post to convert it.
Warning
These read as AI-written: “thrilled to share”, “it's not X, it's Y”. Say it the way you would out loud.

How to add the Claude LinkedIn connector

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add, then Add custom connector. Name it WriteHero, paste the server URL and choose Continue.
  3. Under Authentication, choose No sign in, then Add. In a chat, open the + menu, choose Connectors and turn WriteHero on.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector in Organization settings first. Free plans allow one custom connector.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http --scope user writehero https://writehero.io/api/mcp

Use it as a ChatGPT LinkedIn connector

On ChatGPT web, turn on developer mode, create an app with the server URL and choose no authentication. Workspace admins may need to allow it first. See OpenAI's instructions.

Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{ "mcpServers": { "writehero": { "url": "https://writehero.io/api/mcp" } } }

VS Code

Add this to .vscode/mcp.json:

{ "servers": { "writehero": { "type": "http", "url": "https://writehero.io/api/mcp" } } }

Other clients take the same server URL. Check your client's MCP docs for where it goes.

Prompts to try

What it cannot do

The server never connects to LinkedIn. It cannot search people, read profiles, posts or messages, change your headline or publish. It does not call an AI model, so results are the same every time for the same text.

Frequently asked questions

What is a LinkedIn MCP server?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard for giving AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT extra tools. A LinkedIn MCP server adds LinkedIn-specific tools. WriteHero's server gives your assistant post checks, LinkedIn formatting and a feed preview, so a post it writes is ready to paste.

Is the WriteHero LinkedIn MCP server free?

Yes. It is free, needs no account and no API key. Add the server URL to your assistant and start asking.

Can it publish to my LinkedIn account?

No. The server has no access to your LinkedIn account. It cannot read your profile, posts or messages, and it cannot publish. You copy the finished post into LinkedIn yourself.

Does WriteHero store the posts I check?

No. The text is processed to return the result and is not saved, and our logs record which tool ran, not your text. A preview link is different: the post travels inside the link, so share it only with people who should read the draft.

Why doesn't the server write posts with AI?

Your assistant already writes. The server does what language models get wrong: exact character counts, roughly where LinkedIn cuts a post, and Unicode formatting. For drafts written in your own voice from your real posts, use the WriteHero app.

Which AI assistants does it work with?

Any client that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP: Claude (web, desktop and Claude Code), ChatGPT with developer mode, Cursor, VS Code and others.
