How to check and fix a LinkedIn link preview

  1. Paste your link

    Enter the page you want to share, such as a blog post or landing page, and select Check preview.

  2. Fix the tags it flags

    Add any missing og:title, og:description, og:url or og:image, and replace an image that is too small, too large or the wrong shape.

  3. Refresh LinkedIn's copy

    Paste the same link into LinkedIn Post Inspector so new posts pick up the updated preview.

How to use LinkedIn Post Inspector to refresh a preview

LinkedIn stores a copy of each link's preview. After you change your tags, open LinkedIn Post Inspector, enter the URL and check that the preview shows the right content. According to LinkedIn's help page on Post Inspector, the refresh only applies to new posts that include the link. Posts already published keep their old preview.

Post Inspector shows what LinkedIn has stored. This checker adds a plain list of missing tags and image size problems.

The Open Graph tags LinkedIn reads

LinkedIn's guide to making a website shareable asks for these four tags in the page head:

<meta property="og:title" content="Title of the article" />
<meta property="og:description" content="One or two sentences about it" />
<meta property="og:image" content="https://example.com/preview.jpg" />
<meta property="og:url" content="https://example.com/article" />

The image should be at least 1200 x 627 pixels, close to 1.91:1 and no more than 5 MB. If an image meets those rules but still does not appear, LinkedIn notes that the site may be blocking it from loading the image.

Why a LinkedIn link preview is wrong or missing

Missing tags. Without og:image, LinkedIn may pick another image from the page or show none.

The image breaks the rules. Too small and it may look blurry or shrinks to a thumbnail; over 5 MB and it may not load.

An old cached copy. You fixed the tags, but LinkedIn still has the earlier version until you refresh it in Post Inspector.

Crawlers are blocked. A firewall, login wall or bot protection can stop LinkedIn from reading the page or the image.

Frequently asked questions

What is LinkedIn Post Inspector?
Post Inspector is LinkedIn's own tool at linkedin.com/post-inspector. You enter a URL, it shows how LinkedIn sees the page, and it fetches the page again so new posts get a fresh preview. This checker is a separate, independent tool from WriteHero that checks the same Open Graph tags and measures the image against LinkedIn's requirements.
How do I clear the LinkedIn link preview cache?
Paste the URL into LinkedIn Post Inspector after you fix your tags. LinkedIn says the refresh only affects new posts that include the link; posts already published keep their old preview, so delete and repost if the old card matters.
Why is my LinkedIn link preview showing the wrong image?
Usually the page has no og:image, so LinkedIn picks another image or none, or LinkedIn is still showing a cached version from before you changed it. It can also happen when the image is too small, larger than 5 MB, or blocked for crawlers. Check the link above, fix what it flags, then refresh the link in Post Inspector.
Is there a LinkedIn debugger like Facebook's Sharing Debugger?
Yes. LinkedIn's version is Post Inspector at linkedin.com/post-inspector. Use this checker to find what to fix, then refresh the link there.
Why is my LinkedIn link preview not showing at all?
LinkedIn could not read the page or found no usable tags. Check that the page is public, that og:title and og:image are set, and that a firewall, login wall or bot protection is not blocking crawlers. Then refresh the link in Post Inspector and share it in a new post.
What image size does LinkedIn use for link previews?
LinkedIn asks for an og:image of at least 1200 x 627 pixels, a 1.91:1 ratio and no more than 5 MB. Images under 401 pixels wide appear as a small thumbnail instead of a large card.
Which tags does LinkedIn read for a link preview?
LinkedIn's help page lists four Open Graph tags: og:title, og:image, og:description and og:url. Put them in the head of the page as meta tags with the property attribute.
Why does this checker show something different from LinkedIn?
LinkedIn may still be showing a cached preview, and some sites serve different content or block requests depending on who is asking. This tool reads the page as it is right now. If they differ, refresh the link in Post Inspector.
Is this LinkedIn link preview checker free?
Yes. It is free with no signup. Our server loads the page and its image once to read the tags, and the links you check are not saved.
