How to Find Your LinkedIn URL, Copy It, Customize It and Share It
To find your LinkedIn URL, open your profile (click Me, then View Profile on desktop) and look under "Public profile & URL" in the right pane: it starts with www.linkedin.com/in/ followed by your name or an ID. In the iPhone or Android app it sits under Contact info on your profile. You can copy it from either place, change the ending to something cleaner, and share it as a link, a QR code or a line in your email signature.
Steps checked on October 14, 2026 against LinkedIn Help: Find your LinkedIn public profile URL, Manage your public profile URL and Control your public LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn changes menus from time to time, so if a label on your screen is slightly different, look for the closest match.
Where to find your LinkedIn URL at a glance
On a narrow screen, scroll sideways to read every column.
| Where you are | Path to your URL | What you see |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop browser | Me > View Profile > right pane, Public profile & URL | www.linkedin.com/in/... |
| LinkedIn app (iPhone and Android) | Profile photo > profile photo again > More next to Add section > Contact info | URL in the Your Profile section |
| Mobile browser | Profile photo > scroll to Contact | URL under LinkedIn |
| Your phone, to share fast | Search bar > QR code > My code | A scannable code for your profile |
How to find my LinkedIn URL on desktop
These are the steps from LinkedIn's Find your LinkedIn public profile URL page:
- Click the Me icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.
- Click View Profile.
- Look at the right pane, under Public profile & URL. Your URL begins with www.linkedin.com/in.
- Copy the link and paste it wherever you need it.
While you are on your own profile page, the browser address bar usually shows the same link. On a resume, use the version under Public profile & URL, since that is the one LinkedIn labels as your public profile URL.
How to find your LinkedIn URL in the app (iPhone and Android)
LinkedIn's help page uses one set of steps for both iOS and Android:
- Tap your profile photo.
- Tap your photo again to open your profile.
- Tap the More icon next to the Add section button.
- Tap Contact info.
- In the Your Profile section, find the URL that begins with www.linkedin.com/in.
- Copy it to share it.
In a mobile browser
If you use LinkedIn in Safari or Chrome on your phone instead of the app, tap your profile photo, scroll to the Contact section, and find the URL that begins with https://www.linkedin.com/in under LinkedIn (source).
Why you cannot see your URL
LinkedIn says plainly: "This URL won't appear if you don't have a public profile" (source). If the field is missing, turn your public profile on first. The steps are in the section on making your profile public below.
Why your URL starts with a country code
Members who live in certain countries have a public profile URL that begins with a 2-letter code based on the country listed on their profile, for example ca.linkedin.com for Canada. If you change that country, the URL changes automatically and the old URLs still work (source).
How to copy my LinkedIn URL
Copying works the same way as any other link:
- Desktop: select the URL under Public profile & URL (or in the address bar) and press Ctrl+C on Windows or Cmd+C on a Mac.
- App: open Contact info as described above and copy the URL in the Your Profile section.
- Shortcut for sending it: on desktop, the Resources button in your introduction section has a Send Profile in a message option that opens a new LinkedIn message with your public profile URL already filled in (source).
How to find someone else's LinkedIn URL
To get another person's profile link, first find their profile. Type their name into the Search bar at the top of LinkedIn, pick them from the suggestions or press Enter, and use the People filter if the results are mixed (source). Then:
- Desktop: open their profile and copy the address from your browser bar. To send it inside LinkedIn, click More in their introduction section and select Share Profile (source).
- App: open their profile, tap More, and choose Share via private message to send it inside LinkedIn, or Share via... to pass it to another app on your phone (source).
If the person is a connection and has chosen to share contact details, you can also click See contact info in their introduction section (source). LinkedIn only shows those details when the member opts to share them.
How to change your LinkedIn URL (custom URL)
LinkedIn assigns a public profile URL automatically when you create your profile (source). You can replace that ending with a custom one, which is easier to read on a resume or business card.
On desktop
From Manage your public profile URL:
- Click the Me icon on your LinkedIn homepage, then View Profile.
- Click the Edit icon next to Public profile & URL in the right pane.
- Under Edit your custom URL, click the Edit icon next to your URL.
- Type the new ending and click Save.
In the LinkedIn app
- Tap your profile photo, then tap it again to open your profile.
- Tap the More icon next to Add section, then tap Contact info.
- Tap the Edit icon in the upper right, then tap your Profile URL.
- On the Public profile settings page, tap the Edit icon next to your URL, enter the new ending and tap Save.
LinkedIn custom URL rules
All of these come from the same help page:
On a narrow screen, scroll sideways to read every column.
| Rule | What LinkedIn says |
|---|---|
| Length | 3 to 100 characters |
| Characters | No spaces, symbols, special characters or the word LinkedIn |
| Capital letters | URLs are case insensitive |
| Availability | If the one you want is taken, pick a different one. LinkedIn cannot release custom URLs on request. |
| How often you can change it | Up to five times within six months, then a six month wait |
| Your old URL | Stays linked to you for six months unless you unlink it, and nobody else can claim it in that time |
| After you unlink an old URL | Hidden for seven days, then available to others |
| Closed accounts | The custom URL becomes available 180 days after the account is closed |
| Assigned (default) URL | Can only change if you update your name |
The same Edit your custom URL area also lists prior URLs that may still be linked to you, so you can unlink them or see your assigned URL.
Picking a good custom URL
Because you only get five changes in six months, decide once and keep it. Practical choices, all within the rules above:
- firstnamelastname, if it is free.
- Your name plus a middle initial, such as janeqdoe, which keeps it personal and readable.
- Your name plus your field, such as janedoedesign, when the plain name is taken.
Avoid adding a job title or employer you may leave. The URL will outlive both.
How to share your LinkedIn URL
Once you have a clean link, put it where people already look for you.
As a QR code
The LinkedIn app has a code built in: tap QR code in the search bar on your homepage, then the My code tab. On iPhone, LinkedIn lists Share my code and Save to photos; on Android the help page lists SAVE TO GALLERY (source). To scan someone else's code, use the Scan tab in the same screen.
If you want a code you can print, put on a slide or use for a company Page, the free LinkedIn QR code generator turns any linkedin.com URL into a PNG or SVG download. It encodes your URL directly, so if you later change your custom URL, make a new code.
In your email signature
Paste your full public profile URL as a text link labeled "LinkedIn" or with your name. A plain text link still works when an email app does not load images. Use the custom version so it looks clean when someone sees the raw address.
On your resume
Put the URL next to your email and phone number at the top. Drop the "https://www." part if space is tight; linkedin.com/in/yourname is enough for a reader to type. LinkedIn also offers a View profile badge for an online resume, blog or website: on your Public Profile settings page, click Create a public profile badge at the bottom of the right rail (source).
In a LinkedIn message
Use Resources > Send Profile in a message on desktop, or Your Profile > Share via... in the Contact section in the app (source).
Is there a short LinkedIn URL?
There is no separate short link for your profile in LinkedIn's help pages. The shortest official version is your custom URL, linkedin.com/in/yourname. LinkedIn does shorten links automatically in posts: when you share a link longer than 26 characters, it is shortened once you click Post (source). That applies to links you post, not to your profile address.
How to make your LinkedIn profile public and see what others see
Your public profile is what people who are not signed in to LinkedIn can see, and it can appear in search results on tools like Google and Bing (source). From Control your public LinkedIn profile:
- Desktop: click Me > View Profile, then the Edit icon next to Public profile & URL.
- App: tap your profile photo > Settings > Visibility, then Edit your public profile under Visibility of your profile & network.
- Set Your profile's public visibility to On to make your profile public, or Off to hide it.
- Turn individual sections on or off. Changes save automatically.
LinkedIn notes two things worth knowing. Search engines can take several weeks or months to reflect changes, and LinkedIn does not control that timing. And turning your public profile off could prevent you from recovering your account if you lose access to your primary email address (source).
To check what a stranger sees, open your public profile URL in a private or incognito browser window where you are not signed in. LinkedIn says people who are not members may be asked to sign in to see parts of it, and some places show a more limited preview (source).
Make the link worth clicking
A clean URL gets people to your profile. What they read next decides whether they stay. Start with the top of the page: your headline, photo and About section, then work through the rest with the LinkedIn profile optimization guide.
Visitors also scroll to your recent posts. If you find it hard to post regularly, WriteHero writes LinkedIn posts in your own voice, based on your real past posts, so you have something current on your profile when the link gets clicked.
